The society in America, and many western countries, since the industrial revolution has been one of "just ignore the problem so we can progress". Of course they never tell what "progress" means exactly, but I digress. Ever since the times in which Bradbury was able to pull his inspiration (and Orwell of course) ignorance and apathy for peace/safety/what have you has been common place. This view point is than passed down to the children and any type of revolutionary thinking is effectively squashed and thus this makes a society that can ignore all the wrongs you stated here with little need for the justification of its ignorance.
